"This is a safe space. We value your color, class, creed, gender, and orientation." This sign was on the wall of an Austin restaurant Punch Bowl Social in December of 2016. My guess is that what prompted it, in part, was that after the presidential election of 2016 there was an increase of assaults and harassment aimed against people of color, women, LGBT, Muslims, and immigrants. Some Austin businesses wanted to make it clear that they stand with all minorities and won't tolerate harassment on their premises.
