Halloween 2005: Erika and other kids in costumes
I have now officially gone insane. For this Halloween I made Erika a costume even though she couldn't appreciate it or understand why mom and dad are making her wear stiff and paint-sticky fabric. And why, if she's able to peel a shiny thingy off of the costume, she's not allowed to put it in her mouth.
I took a blue romper (blue, because even though Erika is a girl, pink color just doesn't go well with computer theme), painted 0s and 1s all over it with fabric paint, and, in addition to that, cut out numbers 2 and 0 out of sparkly self-adhesive paper and stuck them onto the romper. So, Erika was dressed as Version 2.0.
But I never used fabric paint before, and didn't know how to work with it, and managed to pick the worst possible kind of paint. Glittery. It sheds little particles of glitter everywhere within 2 meter radius. Glitter gets smeared all over the fabric. So the costume looked really messy. And the sparkly adhesive paper does not stick to the fabric very well.
And, as a Not A Detail-Oriented Person (TM) I flubbed the execution of the costume by not making the "2.0" logo in contrasting color to stand out in the background of 1s and 0s, and by making it so big that part of it was always covered by my arm when I carried the baby around. As a result people could not clearly see the "2.0" and no one could tell what this costume was supposed to be. Several people guessed "bits and bytes". Then I had to explain them, pose the baby just the right way so that "2.0" would be visible, and apologize for the crappy execution. :-)
But I was able to take a few pictures before the adhesive parts fell off.
The reason I did this was because on Halloween employees at my work were supposed to bring their children to work for trick-or-treating. As soon as this was announced, a couple of weeks ago, I felt an unstoppable urge to make a costume for the baby.
The panoply of coworkers' costumed kids was captured in some of the pictures in this album.
